Overland Travel: 40+ Years Exploring the World

With over 40 years of experience traveling the world, my journeys have taken me through the vibrant streets of France, the rich culture of Italy, the breathtaking landscapes of Canada, the wildlife-filled plains of South Africa, the endless dunes of Namibia, and the cultural vibrancy of Morocco. Whether I’ve traveled as a solo backpacker, with my partner, friends, family, or now as a senior traveler, my goal has always been to fully immerse myself in the landscapes and cultures of each destination. I believe the best way to truly experience a place is through slow overland travel, whether it’s by car, motorhome, or using public transport. Exploring scenic routes in South Africa, self-drive safaris in Kenya, or hidden gems in Morocco has always been my passion.

Scenic Roads, Camping & Unique Stays

I’ve always preferred the road less traveled, choosing scenic routes over busy highways, and staying in small-scale hotels, unique lodges, and wild camps that prioritize eco-friendly travel and sustainable practices. My travels have taken me through the breathtaking landscapes of Canada, hiking in the rugged terrain of Namibia, swimming in natural pools in South Africa, and immersing myself in the cultural richness of Morocco. I love discovering local eateries in Thailand, finding secluded beaches in Zanzibar, and staying in luxurious, unique accommodations like Giraffe Manor in Kenya. Whether it's indulging in affordable luxury in Dubai’s Bab al Shams or staying in remote campsites in Oman, every destination offers its own unique charm.

Avoid Tourist Traps: Discover Hidden Gems & Ethical Travel

After decades of traveling, I’ve learned to avoid tourist traps that disappoint. Whether it’s the overhyped temples in Thailand or the crowded tourist spots in Paris, I now intentionally focus on finding hidden gems. Places like Sri Lanka’s tea plantations, India’s remote villages, and the quiet beaches of Zanzibar offer more authentic, off-the-beaten-path experiences. I’ve seen too many unethical practices in tourism, like lion breeding and elephant rides, and I now focus on ethical travel, whether it’s a self-drive safari in South Africa or discovering local culture in Morocco. My goal is always to find places that allow me to connect with nature and people, and those that respect wildlife and the environment, like the ethical safari experiences in Kenya.
