Mauritius with Beachcomber: Three Journeys, One Island

Why I Keep Returning to Beachcomber Mauritius

I didn’t plan on returning. Not once, and certainly not three times. Mauritius had always seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime kind of place, a postcard island you visit once, tick off the list, and file away in memory. But somehow, I returned. And each time, it felt like a different island altogether.

The first time, I came with toddlers. Exhausted, overloaded, and secretly worried the ‘holiday’ would be harder work than staying home. The second time, it was just the two of us, a short break, just long enough to reset. And the third time, I brought my teenage sons, taller than me, and just as full of opinions.

Each time, I stayed with Beachcomber Mauritius. And each time, the resort experience felt like it was built around where I was in life, what I needed, and what I didn’t even know I was looking for.

Is Beachcomber Mauritius worth it?
Yes absolutely! Not because it’s flawless, but because it quietly adapts to what you need. Space, rhythm, attention without intrusion. It’s personal luxury, not showy hospitality.

Dinarobin Beachcomber: A Family Sanctuary With Small Kids

My first trip to Mauritius was with toddlers. I wasn’t looking for luxury, I was looking for breathing space. What I found at Dinarobin Beachcomber was more than calm; it was a version of rest I hadn’t known I needed.

The villa felt like a home: peaceful, shaded, and practical, with enough room to spread out without feeling isolated. We moved around on foot or by golf cart, which the kids adored, part transport, part entertainment. I loved that everything was within easy reach but never felt busy.

The Kids Club was a gift. It wasn’t just crafts and beach games, it was care, structure, and joy. We even had the option of dedicated nannies, which gave me space to breathe. And when I say space, I mean it: long mornings with a book by the pool, slow coffee, uninterrupted thoughts. The kids could eat separately at Beachcomber too, which meant we all got a little independence in a way that worked.

One afternoon, I took a massage at the spa, one of the best I’ve ever had. Everything melted away in that quiet pavilion.

Another day, I went snorkeling right off the beach, surrounded by fish that shimmered like sequins. Later, we were chased by tiny crablets up and down the shore. I never imagined that would be the moment we’d all laugh the hardest. The next day, we booked a boat tour, and when the dolphins came, the guide shouted, “Jump now!” I did, clumsily, but joyfully. That evening, I tried sea urchin for the first time, salty, strange, and unforgettable.

We visited Le Morne Brabant, Chamarel’s Colored Earth, and La Vallée des Couleurs.

Paradis Beachcomber: A Romantic Return to Calm

Our second trip was short, just a few days. A break. Time as a couple. Paradis Beachcomber gave us exactly that. The lawns stretch out toward the sea, with Le Morne rising in the distance. We walked barefoot. We swam before breakfast. Everything was slower, and better for it.

Couple on private boat tour in Mauritius – Paradis Beachcomber experience

We took a private boat tour straight from the beach. Just the two of us. The ocean opened up around us while dolphins arced alongside the boat. It was quiet, it was wild, and it was completely ours. At lunch, we shared a seafood platter as the sun melted behind the palms, speaking softly, or not at all. We hiked Le Morne the next morning.

At Paradis, we weren’t fixing anything. We were just remembering.

Shandrani Beachcomber: Teen Energy and Soft Structure

The third trip was with my teenage sons, an entirely different dynamic. I chose Shandrani, on the southeast coast near Blue Bay Marine Park.

It could’ve gone wrong. But instead, it felt right. The boys were off, paddleboarding, playing volleyball, joining diving try-outs, sipping smoothies in between. The all-inclusive format gave them freedom. It gave me peace.

I started each day with beach walks or quiet stretches in the garden. One afternoon, I had a deep-tissue massage that left me weightless.

One day we snorkeled together in Blue Bay, and for a moment everyone was quiet. The water was clear, the coral alive with color, and even my teens stayed close, watching angelfish shimmer past their hands.

We explored more than I expected, a guided tour to Île aux Aigrettes, dramatic cliffs at Pont Naturel, and the quiet, mossy charm of Eureka House. Shandrani didn’t just give us things to do, it gave us time to notice them.

Beachcomber Mauritius Food Review: What to Expect

What is the food like at Beachcomber Resorts?
Fresh, local, balanced. With enough variety to keep even picky teens and toddlers happy.
Is the food at Beachcomber good for families with kids?
Absolutely. Menus are diverse and staff are happy to adapt.
From banana pancakes at Dinarobin, to rosé and seafood at Paradis, to curry nights at Shandrani, I was always well fed.

Best Time to Visit Mauritius for Beachcomber Holidays

The best time to visit Mauritius is October for families and May for couples. Perfect weather, fewer crowds, and excellent value. I’ve visited in May, October, and December.

Is Mauritius Expensive for Family Beach Holidays?

Mauritius isn’t budget, but it’s not overpriced. With Beachcomber offers and smart flight deals (I always fly Emirates), it’s more accessible than you’d think.
Is Mauritius cheap or expensive for family travel?
It’s excellent value if you plan ahead. Especially off-season with all-inclusive resorts.

Mauritius Airport Transfers & Getting Around

How far is Beachcomber from Mauritius Airport?

  • Shandrani: 15 minutes
  • Paradis/Dinarobin: 90 minutes: a beautful scenic coastal route

A Stop in Port Louis: Culture and Colour

I always stop in Port Louis, the capital. The Central Market is loud, colourful, and full of spice and silk. Colonial buildings stand beside temples. If you want real Mauritius, stop here, even for an hour.

Why Beachcomber Mauritius Keeps Calling Me Back

With toddlers, Mauritius gave me calm. As a couple, it gave us reconnection. With teens, it gave me space without forcing togetherness.

Mauritius is not just an island. It’s a rhythm. Would I return again? I'm already planning!
